| How
much do you smoke?
Roughly half a pack a day, less if I'm at home,
more if I'm out at a club, especially if I with
other smokers.
How
old were you when you started smoking?
I had my first cigarette at 17, but I didn't
have my second until I was 19. After that my
smoking went from one or so a day for the first
six months to my current level in about a year.
Smoking
Turn-ons:
A cigarette is a dramatic symbol. It extends
the hand, acts as a focal point for the eye,
and symbolizes living for hedonism and to hell
with the consequences.
There's
something attractive and powerful about people
willing to engage in blatantly self-destructive
acts for pleasure. Women who smoke are sexy
and dangerous, a little wild, and often sophisticated.
Men who smoke have gravitas, the ability to
command attention, and a sense of drama.
People
who smoke unapologetically, freely admitting
that it will kill them eventually, and gladly
accepting that price gain strength from self-sacrifice
and honesty.
Smokers
who pay attention to their smoking, who consume
the cigarette with intent and for its own sake
rather than as a vehicle for nicotine are my
favorite smokers. They remember why they started
smoking, and they continue to smoke for those
reasons.
Smoking
Turnoffs:
Smoking to fulfill a nicotine addiction is a
huge turn-off. When I start to feel the need
for a cigarette, I quit until that need is gone.
Each
cigarette should be enjoyed for its own sake,
and to suck it down without savoring the taste,
the smell, and the ritual is a waste.
Other
brands you smoke or have smoked in the past?
Mostly
Sampoerna Extras, though I've dabbled in other
clvoe brands as well.
Ever
smoke Cigars or Pipes?
I only smoke cigars on ceremonial occasions.
Though I enjoy the flavor of most cigars, sometimes
a cigar is required by the moment.
If
you could smoke any thing, anywhere with anyone
what, where and who
would it be with?
I can't pick just one, so I'm going to describe
two. Both are fictional as opposed to historical,
but I don't suppose it matters since this is
all hypothetical anyway.
The
first actually comes from long before I began
smoking, actually from my childhood, and is
probably the beginning of my interest is smoke.
I would love to smoke a pipe of good Shire long
leaf with Gandalf, watching him blow not just
smoke rings, but smoke squares and arrows and
cubes.
The
second is also fictional, from a comic book
series written by Warren Ellis called Transmetropolitan.
The main character is a semi-psychotic political
firebrand journalist named Spider Jerusalem.
He's roughly based on Hunter S. Thompson, but
he's crazier. He smokes at least three packs
of the fictional Carcinoma Angels a day. I'd
give a year of my life to walk through the streets
of the City with Spider, smoking and listening
to him dispense advice, admonishment, accolades,
and abuse to the deserving.
I
wish I could find Carcinoma Angels in real life.
I'd switch brands in a second.
Did
your Mother or Father smoke?
When I was very young my Dad used to smoke a
pipe about once a week. I remember watching
him blow smoke rings and being absolutely amazed.
What
is the most amount that you have ever smoked?
I
smoked close to two packs of Blacks in a 24-hour
period at one point. As to the circumstances,
I plead the fifth.
Have
you ever quit, if so how many times?
I haven't actually quit. I've just stopped smoking
for a while. If I can't enjoy each and every
cigarette to the fullest, I don't smoke them.
